We want to remind you about a few important maintenance related tips to ensure that your portable fire pump is ready when you need it.

Wildfire season is basically all year round now in California. It's imperative to test and practice with this system so that you are proficient using it when it counts.
Gas Fire Pump Maintenance Tips
  1. Drain the old fuel out of the gas tank if it has been sitting for over a year.
  2. The engine will run properly on regular car gas with ethanol, but this type of fuel has a short shelf life and can clog the carburetors and fuel lines if not used frequently, even with fuel stabilizer.
  3. We recommend using ethanol-free gasoline, which is available at many gas stations. It is also available at Home Depot or Lowe’s. It is called Tru Fuel Engineered Fuel, lasts much longer, and helps prevent maintenance issues.
  4. Change the oil every 20 hours of operation.
  5. Use only 4-cycle SAE 10W-30 engine oil. Synthetic oil is not necessary.
  6. Remember to fill the pump with water before starting the engine and check the oil level.
  7. Exercise the pump 2-3 times a year to ensure everything functions properly. To test and exercise the pump, put only a few cups of gas in the tank to prevent the fuel from sitting for long periods.
  8. Only fill the gas tank when it is likely to be used soon to protect your property. This is much easier than draining old gas from the tank and disposing of it.
  9. When preparing the system for storage, run the engine out of fuel by turning off the fuel valve and letting it run until the engine stops.
  10. Be sure to remove the pump drain plug to drain water from the pump, preventing pool water from sitting inside and causing corrosion.
